“She gets up before dawn to prepare breakfast for her household & plan the days work for her servant girls.” Proverbs 31:15 (NLT)
I have had the “luxury” of waking up 13 minutes before reporting to work for a little over a year now. In that 13 minutes I am able to get a few things accomplished: Quick morning prayer, wash my lady parts, brush my teeth, get dressed and walk maybe 100 feet to meet my boss for our 7am pow-wow. I currently work and live on a ship so I am able to push this time limit to the max but recently, I’ve began to ask myself “But why Brooke? Lets try waking up a little earlier so I can actually walk back & forth to get ready vs running back & forth.”
Psalms 119:147 says “I rise before dawn and cry for help; I wait for Your words.” There are MANY references in the Bible as to where someone wakes up early and gets things done or in this verses case, waits for God’s words. You can accomplish alot by rising just a little bit earlier. I believe to help us to do this, maybe we may need to have a reason to help us fulfill this goal:
- To give God a little more time than we would have given had we woke up later. Empowerment prayer will definitely help keep ones spirits up during the day especially if you give yourself that extra time to meditate on the Word.
- To prepare or write out a plan for the day. Sometimes an actual plan of attack will help us pave the way. Some of us even need a written to-do list to stay on track so we dont venture off into lala land leaving ourselves feeling unaccomplished.
- Get a workout in. Its a great way to start out the day. Go ahead. Get that metabolism moving! Once it’s done, you won’t have to contemplate on whether or not to work out after work due to already being tired.
- You will feel a sense of satisfaction BEFORE the work day even begins. If you start off feeling this way, most likely, the remainder of the day will be of great cheer as well.
This week, STARTING TOMORROW MORNING my first baby step will be being out of my bed 17 minutes earlier than the norm which will be at 6:30. The following week, I will be out of the bed by 6:15 and the following week, I WILL be up and rolling at 6:00.
If you all need help in this area, I encourage all to just start small. Who knows? Taking a baby step today could result in a full blown stride tomorrow!
Welp, Here Goes Something!!
