Ok so the title sounds serious BUT this is actually a pretty funny story. Yesterday, as I’m going to an event in DC, I stop at this walk-up gas station that was joined to a walk-up Dunkin Donuts. I had already predetermined that I needed to use the ATM just in case I had to use a parking garage and as I walk towards the ATM, I am somewhat approached by this homeless guy and this was our conversation(OH! For conversation purposes, I will use the name “Donte” so that I don’t call him “him” and I am “Brooke” just in case you didn’t know.)
DONTE:Hey! Can you give me a few dollars to catch the bus?
BROOKE: I’m sorry but don’t have any cash on me.
DONTE: Well can you buy me a sausage sandwich?
BROOKE: Sure, I can do that
**I continue walking to the ATM, and he doesn’t say anything exctept SPRINT to the Dunkin Donuts window to order**
DONTE: Aight, it’s $8.91(I don’t remember the amount to the penny but it was juuuust about 9 bucks)
BROOKE: What did you order for $9??
DONTE: Oh I just got a soda.
BROOKE: What soda is $5???
**I start walking to the DD window to ask the young lady that took his order what he ordered and for the story’s sake, we’ll name her “Rashida” even though Ive never seen an Indian girl named Rashida but hey, it’s possible right?)
BROOKE: Ma’am, what exactly did he order?
RASHIDA: A sausage, egg and cheese bagel, an iced caramel latte, a bottle of soda and a cup of water.
BROOKE: Do what now?? Take all that extra stuff off except the sandwich.
RASHIDA: So you only want the sandwich?
BROOKE: Only the sandwich
RASHIDA: Ok, your new total is $3.75
At that point, I pay Rashida, tell Donte “Ok sir, you have a nice day.” AND CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT ALL HE DID WAS TURN AWAY, GRAB HIS SANDWICH FROM THE PICK-UP WINDOW AND WALK AWAY!
I literally just stood there for maybe 3 seconds with the “what in the world just happened” face because I can’t remember the last time someone was just plain weird except my best friend…and my boss…and…ok ok theres a lot of weirdness going on around here so I guess I’d call it rude. Thing is, as he walked away, I didn’t feel as if he had committed a crime. I wasn’t offended or mad. I didn’t have an attitude in the slightest. In all actuality, I laughed.
You see, I could have gotten upset and called him ungrateful, rude, douche etc that could possibly come to mind after he 1.)tried to order a million things and I ain’t rich 2.)lie about what he ordered and 3.)walk away without acknowledging the fact that someone just did something nice for a complete stranger BUT I DON’T DO THINGS FOR PEOPLE. MY ACTIONS AREN’T BASED UPON THEM. I DO THINGS TO PLEASE GOD! I DO(Wait, am I yelling because of the caps lock?? I don’t quite know website etiquette yet so y’all please excuse me but I am veeeery serious tho) EVERYTHING I DO, IS FOR OUR HEAVENLY FATHER WHO SMILES WHEN OUR ACTIONS ARE FOR HIM! I have dedicated living my life serving Him and others(because it is pleasing to Him) and no matter how crazy others may act, I try to always keep my composure because I don’t want to upset God. After the loving sacrifice of His son, how in the world can I possibly walk around doing things to please other people when they don’t compare to Him at all!?
Anywho, I hope you found this as funny as I did. Have a woooooonderful day!!!
